Song of Solomon: Week 3

The Art of Courtship, Part 1

The Art of Courtship is the beginning of sacrifice and commitment between two people. Dating could be described as “kicking tires” or “browsing in a store.” Courtship is when the two people know the other is special and want to know more about them. Courtship is a risk between two people.

Song of Solomon, Chapter 2: 8-14

8 “Listen! My beloved! Behold, he is coming, Climbing on the mountains, Leaping on the hills! 9 “My beloved is like a gazelle or a young stag. Behold, he is standing behind our wall, He is looking through the windows, He is peering through the lattice. 10 “My beloved responded and said to me, ‘Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along. 11 ‘For behold, the winter is past, The rain is over and gone. 12 ‘The flowers have already appeared in the land; The time has arrived for pruning the vines, And the voice of the turtledove has been heard in our land. 13 ‘The fig tree has ripened its figs, And the vines in blossom have given forth their fragrance. Arise, my darling, my beautiful one, And come along!’”14 “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock, In the secret place of the steep pathway, Let me see your form, Let me hear your voice; For your voice is sweet, And your form is lovely.”

1) What is the difference between courtship and dating?

2) To have a good courtship, what four things must occur?

3) What does, “do you see honey? Eat what you need, lest you eat too much and vomit it up” and “let your foot not often be in your neighbors house, lest he come to despise you” mean?

4) Son of Solomon 2:14, “O my dove, in the clefts of the rock...” What does this mean?

5) Ephesians 5:26, “...that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by the washing of water with the word...” What does this verse mean?

 6) “You make your bed, then you have to lie in it.” What is the principle Tommy is communicating?

7) What needs to happen after having gone out for four to five weeks?

Key thought
“A great courtship leads to a great marriage. In order to have a godly marriage, strive for a godly courtship.”

Memory Verse

“Like a city that is broken into and without walls its a man who has no control over his spirit.” Proverbs 25:28
