PRAY

Pour out your heart to God in prayer
Nehemiah 1:1-11

God is never annoyed by our heartfelt prayers.  God's "inbox" is never too full to take notice of our prayers.  You can't tire God with your prayers.  He is always there, with you.

In the face of heartbreaking news about the Jewish return and the status of Jerusalem Nehemiah was devastated.  Nehemiah poured out his heart to God in prayer. His prayer included acknowledging God's strengths and attributes, and confession about God's people's shortfalls, errors and sins.  It was a heartfelt conversation with God.

This passage points out to us that

  • Prayer is all about God, not us.
  • Confession realigns our priorities.
  • Life should be an ongoing conversation with God.
Consider using the prayer Guide ACTS:
  • Adoration
  • Confession
  • Thanksgiving
  • Supplication (asking humbly)
This week:
  • PRAY – let God be the leader and ask for God's direction, then LISTEN!  Confess your weaknesses and focus on God's strengths.
  • READ – STUDY the Bible.  There is a lifetime of instruction there.  As above, let God be the leader and ask for God's direction, then LISTEN!
  • WRITE – Take notes. Writing down what you learn reinforces it in your mind.  Consider prayer journaling, simple journaling or just a book of study notes that you can review from time to time when needed.
  • SHARE – Share your discoveries with those who need them.
